Life With God 3c – I AM The Good Shepherd

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. John 10:11

We can meditate a good long time on this verse. It strikes our hearts on numerous levels but I’d like to narrow this discussion down to those who have a pastoral calling. If we are following closely in our Master’s footsteps, our call also may be to lay down our lives for the sheep entrusted to us. The wolves can attack at any moment and our calling requires us to be a bulwark. Is your heart being shaped such that you can do this without hesitation?

Can you do it when you sense that not all of the sheep appreciate your willingness to do so? Will your heart be turned to a greater flock if your celebrity grows, taking your protective eye off of those whom God has placed under your care? Can you recover if the wolf somehow infiltrates your flock and scatters them despite your earnest intentions?

It’s one thing to say that you are prepared to do so, yet another to actually do it. We must be certain that our public and private heart are one and the same.

  1. Hey Doulos,
It’s been a while. I’m just kind of checking in w/ you all because I know The School has been really quiet the last couple of months. I’m working on a new Irish folk album right now so I kind of have a seperate blog going for that http://logueandthebanshee.wordpress.com if you’re interested in keeping up w/ my progress. I usually post at least bi-weekly in that.

Then in January I’m going to start a new Suburban Sound record which will take me out of the blogosphere even more because it’ll be a full length album…which will be an absolute bear to produce myself! I can’t wait though!

Anyway, just wanted to drop you a line and let you know I’m still poking around here even though I’m not writing much. So much going on w/ politics and all that that I just feel like I have to remove myself from the temptation to write Libertarian charged Presbyterian blogs right now hah!

  2. Brother Andy! And it’s No, Nay, Never!!

It’s great to hear from you. I was listening to your first songs yesterday while the Bad Dog ™ and I were out in the woods. The Wild Rover is moving up over Whiskey in the Jar as my favorite tune. I’m looking forward to your new record. The new site looks good.

Are the SS tunes that your were finishing available? I haven’t been to the website for a while.

I noticed the conspicuous Ron Paul placard in your studio. Is that for inspiration? The trouble with Libertarian ideas is that America has become too soft for the kind of rugged individualism that true libertarian practice requires. You’ll probably have to switch your vote to Obama to get that small government and low taxation! 🙂

    Keep in touch

  3. Um, the new SS tunes are available on the myspace site, but I never did get them into the media player on our website. So http://www.myspace.com/thesuburbansound has the new songs. Our website will be updated rather often this winter when we start working on our album. It’ll turn more into a studio log than an actual band website, but I think that’s better anyway.

Yeah I just couldn’t bring myself to throw away the Ron Paul sign. I still believe what that brother preached very strongly. I vote McCain to block a Democrat majority now…but I still hope and pray the Republicans will some day return to their “Libertarian ideas”.
